Gill Palmer-Centre Director
Gil has been the Hamilton New Shoots Centre Director since we opened in January 2013. She’s a huge fan of the great outdoors and loves the emphasis New Shoots gives to the environment.
“I believe tamariki thrive when they are playing and learning in nature. A nature-based childhood allows children to develop perseverance, imagination, resilience and a chance to learn about looking after Mother Earth; Papatuanuku. Playing in the bush or at the beach helps them to find peace and calmness away from devices and crowds.
I initially began my ECE career as a kindergarten teacher, then after bringing up my three children I moved from being a teacher to management. I owned and ran a small childcare centre before joining New Shoots Hamilton. I’m a grandmother with two grandsons and I spend many a weekend exploring the outdoors with them.”
