Jessica Van Weerd - Teacher

My name is Jessica Van Weerd & I was born in Hamilton but have lived in Kerikeri for fourteen years. In my spare time with my fiancé, and our son love going on road trips, fishing and working together to make wooden furniture for our upcoming wedding. I also enjoy op shopping, reading and event planning/styling. 

Children have always been my passion so it felt to choose teaching as my career path. I believe that children are creative and competent learners who bring to the world their unique ideas, talents and personalities. Each child meets developmental milestones and understands experiences at both their own pace and special way of understanding. I believe in setting/developing reciprocal relationships through mutual trust/respect, which can be gained through high quality adult and child interactions. For these interactions to occur, I need to be aware of each families values, beliefs and culture, as well as each child’s strengths and interests. When I establish these strong relationships, it will increase my chances of having quality interactions with them. 

I feel incredibly fortunate to have joined the New Shoots family and look forward to my new experiences and fun I know I’ll experience.
