Laura’s professional ECE journey began 10 years ago in Hamilton, when she secured her first junior teaching position and studied a certificate in Maori early childhood through Te Wananga o Aotearoa. From that time, she gained her Bachelor of ECE Education (in 2014) through NZTC and discovered her passion for working with infants, which she has thoroughly enjoyed for the past 7 years. She started at New Shoots after relocating to BOP in 2015. She began searching for a quality, early childhood setting for my daughter and found New Shoots Papamoa, which she says ‘just feels right’. Immediately they filled out the enrolment and she began relieving shortly after. Since then she has been a part of the opening teams for the Sandhurst location and now the Matamata centre, where she continues to do what she loves every day.

“Being a teacher is so rewarding! When working with infants and their families building warm, trusting relationships is a core element to our job, and I treasure the laughter and heart warming moments that these relationships bring every day. As an educator I strive to provide a learning environment that is loving, empowering and filled with opportunity. It is my belief that when a child feels supported, capable and inspired that they will naturally develop a life-long love for learning.

Outside of work I spend most of my time with my husband, three young children and our amazing family and friends. One of my favourite things to do is enjoy a lazy pyjama morning, cuddled up on the couch with the kids!”
