Sarah was born and raised in Whangarei with two brothers and one sister. After turning 18 she moved to Christchurch for around 10 years, where she completed her Bachelor of Teaching and Learning at the University of Canterbury. A year after the earthquakes she moved to Adelaide, South Australia for 2 years. She then went back to Whangarei for couple of years before moving to Matamata in 2016 to be with her farmer husband. They had their first baby in August 2018.

She has been teaching in ECE since 2004. The first half of her career was in under 2’s since then she has moved to over 2’s. During this time she has worked as both a teacher and a room leader. She started working for New Shoots in January 2018 in Hamilton and transferred to Matamata in January 2019.

“I have enjoyed the opportunities New Shoots has provided to improve my teaching skills further.

The thing I love about teaching in ECE is watching the process the children go through as they learn new things. I love being there to provide new opportunities and to be a strong support to children’s learning and development, particularly as they learn the ability to regulate their emotions and learn strategies to work with and alongside other children. My strength is literacy, I love telling stories using different voices and animation, I find it really draws the children in and increases their love to listen and tell stories themselves.

Outside of work I enjoy spending quality time with family and friends. I like to read, go on bush walks and attempt to grow fruit trees and a veggie garden.”
