New Shoots Sandhurst Childcare Centre

Welcome to New Shoots Sandhurst. We're located in central Papamoa, surrounded by a beautiful, coastal-themed outdoor area with plenty of room for learning through play.

We offer an exciting and nurturing environment for all our tamariki. We believe in respectful, communicative relationships and build strong partnerships with our parents/whānau to meet the learning outcomes for tamariki. We have a strong commitment to bi-cultural practice.

Our passionate teaching team love working with tamariki, celebrating their milestones and empowering children to learn, grow and develop as they gain a lifelong love of learning. Our caring, respectful environment is the third teacher, promoting relationships that give children confidence in their abilities to freely explore the world around them.

If you feel tired just thinking about Christmas, you’re not alone. Christmas is a magical time, but it’s also a chaotic one with endless shopping and planning, wrapping paper and presents. While the adrenaline is pumping as we tick items off the to-do list, our children are watching – and picking up on our stress. So, how can we make Christmas simpler and less frenzied for the whole family this year? Read our latest blog post for some tips.

If you care about the environment, you’ve no doubt wondered ‘how can I teach my children to do the same?’. The best way to inspire children to look after our precious resources is to lead by example. Forget about educating them on the dreary details, instead focus on how you’re helping our environment thrive. We know life’s busy and often ‘easy’ wins over ‘what’s eco’, which is why we believe making little changes is the way forward (and more sustainable in the long run). Such a fantastic idea from the Kauri Room at New Shoots Hobsonville: "The idea of the toy swap came from our wonderful teacher Keren. We have been talking about Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Rethink. During a mat time conversation on the term 'reduce' Keren mentioned how our toys are something that we could reduce. To really care for what we have. And also that if we did not want the ones we have that they could be treasured by someone else. So the idea of the swap was formed. This week we will swap them. The children are so excited, both with what they have shared and what they can see in the box."
If you’ve been past New Shoots Pakuranga recently, you might have noticed some changes. The café is no longer there, and we’ve transformed the area into a new pre-school space, with an exciting outdoor learning programme. The children in this space closely connect with Papatūānuku in a 3 day a week outdoor “bush kindy” programme called Tane Mahuta. The other 2 days are spent doing meaningful, environmental project based learning back in the centre. Read more about the programme on our blog (link in our bio)
Spring is here, and the promise of sunny days ahead inspires us to get outside. It might look like a simple walk, play at the park, inspection of some rocks or a pause by the duck ponds but being outdoors provides our children with so much more than what we see as adults.
