Have you ever wondered why your child’s room and environment is set up a particular way?
Each space, each material, each setup, there’s a purpose behind it all. At New Shoots, intentional environments are at the heart of our approach. Creating a space for children to thrive is no accident; it’s rich in purpose and planning. Every aspect of their environment – from the placement of materials to the atmosphere they create – is thoughtfully designed to encourage exploration, creativity, and meaningful learning experiences.
Intentional environments go beyond aesthetics. They are crafted to spark curiosity and support emotional connection – whether it’s the sense of awe, discovery, belonging, joy or independence. These spaces are much more than physical setups; they are living frameworks that support each child’s unique learning journey.

A Place That Feels Right: The Foundation of Learning
At New Shoots, one of our core beliefs is that learning begins in a place that feels right. Creating environments where children feel secure and happy is the foundation for meaningful growth and development. At the heart of our curriculum is care and connection. Forming relationships that help us understand each child’s unique way of exploring the world: their ways of knowing, being and doing.
Through play, we take time to notice what sparks their curiosity and imagination. These moments reveal their natural learning urges or what we call their ‘golden thread’. Alongside your aspirations for your child, we use this golden thread to develop an Individual Learning Plan and thoughtfully prepare the environment (and ourselves) to support their journey of discovery, empowerment and learning.
This is where the magic is visible – in the way our space is intentionally curated and how we engage with children within it.

Empowering Learning through Intentional Environments
When we prepare and adapt our environments, we’re not just setting the stage for learning; we’re fostering a relationship between the child, their curiosity, and the world around them. The children’s golden threads guide us daily.
Learning opportunities are deepened when we follow the golden threads and are responsive in how we prepare daily. Whether indoors or outdoors, we thoughtfully and meaningfully set up each space, each day with the children front of mind. We understand our ‘why’ behind each experience and activity on offer.
Learning isn’t isolated to just the golden threads. Woven through each offered experience/provocation are elements of holistic learning opportunities for the children. Whether cognitive development (early literacy, mathematics, science), physical development or social/emotional competency development.

Learning here is not just about acquiring knowledge – it’s about nurturing the whole child. By tuning into their unique interests and natural explorations, we create environments that inspire deeper engagement and meaningful interactions. Whether it’s delving into science experiments or navigating social scenarios, every activity is designed to support their holistic development.
Through intentional planning and thoughtful design, we align individual learning experiences with these golden threads, cultivating a love for discovery that goes beyond the classroom. After all, learning is a journey, and at New Shoots, we’re dedicated to making it as enriching and empowering as possible.

Collaboration to enrich Your Child’s Learning Journey
Your insights matter. Golden threads reflect each child’s natural curiosity, and we value the knowledge you bring from your home and your community.
Your child’s teacher is always happy to chat about what you are observing at home or out and about in the community. Whether it’s a new interest, or a developing skill, or something that lights them up. We also encourage you to share photos, moments and updates with us on StoryPark to help us build a richer picture of their learning. Collaborating with you is just as vital as the golden thread itself in shaping your child’s learning journey here at New Shoots.

Your Partner in Play
Your child’s teacher is always happy to discuss what your child is exploring at home and during centre life. Together, we can celebrate the magic of learning through play.
